Difference between VCB and VDP
Hi Experts,
I would need your help and advice to understand on one scenario which we are planning to do it soon.kindly find the query below.
we are using ESX 4.1 planning to upgrade into 5.5. as well as Vcenter also.we are using tsm 6.2.2 client to move the backup into tape.
right now the backup comes into local server disk then it picup and move the data into tape. Tsm understand vcb as of now.
My question is when we do the upgrade after upgrading the backup will start coming in the form of vdp in the storage only.(That's what i read somewhere in the blog)
if it happened then tsm version which we are using it doesn't understand vdp so what is the best practice to plan for a backup through TSM only.
I wanted to know the difference also between VCB and VDP.
I am new for VMware and TSM also please do let me know if any other clarification is required from my side.

Hi dhanarajramesh, thanks for your reply, i am not working with a cluster, i have a standalone server that runs ESXi and i want to deploy number of VMs on it, one of the VMs will run a traffic forwarding application that is sensitive to delay and jitter, therefore i have to reserve pCPUs for specially for that VM and somehow make the hypervisor NOT to use those pCPUs for other VMs other than the network forwarder.

I managed to get it to work yesterday in the evening. I tried a lot of stuff, until - in my despair - i updated the BIOS of the NUC to the latest version. That did the trick.

Restarted the management services on the host and the VM showed up as Orphaned and I was able to remove it from Inventory!

Sometimes SVmotion of a VM with snapshots can cause this.
How about we SVmotion it back to the old datastore, consolidate all the snapshots and migrate it back to the required datastore.

Hi ssstonebraker, thanks a lot for you reply, i have set both fields that you have mentioned (sched.cpu.latencysensitivity and sched.mem.pin) but it didn't work as expected, i did some additional reading using the links you have attached and couple more references and i noticed some additional fields that should be set (all can be found at http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/VMW-Tuning-Latency-Sensitive-Workloads.pdf on page 7 and then in "Appendix" section)
1) monitor_control.halt_desched = "false"
2) monitor.idleLoopSpinBeforeHalt = "true"
3) monitor.idleLoopMinSpinUS = 100
In addition, i tried to play with "Resource" tab in the VM settings and change the "CPU shares" to "Custom" value of 128000, and set the "Reservation" to 8000 MHz and "Limit" to "Unlimited"
I also had to manually go over all VMs other than my network forwarding VM and set their CPU affinity to exclude the pCPUs i have allocated to network forwarding VM in order to improve the scheduling.
BUT even after all that, i still noticed that the scheduler moves the vCPUs from one pCPU to another, it's definitely much better than before, meaning that the "thread moving around" is smaller than before but it's till occurs, and vCPUs are not perfectly "pinned" to pCPUs as you can see in the attachments below.
I would very much appreciate more ideas .

Проблема с графиками Perfomance
Кто нибудь сталкивался с проблемой с графиками perfomance:
Такая проблема только на одном хосте. Точно так же отображается и в веб клиенте.
Причем график так отображается только есть выбрать Past Dayили Custom не более 24 часов.
У всех ВМ на этом хосте с графиками такая же проблема. После миграции на другой хост график с момента миграции перестает прерываться.
Хосты ESXi 6.

Unable to deploy VMs across multiple reservations in a Business Group on vCAC
I have a Business Group with 3 reservations of which 2 reservations come from same Endpoint, and 1 from other Endpoint. When I deploy VMs using Catalog Services all the VMs are being deployed only in one Reservation Group rather than spreading across the 2 reservations. To overcome this I appeneded the reservation policy to the Blueprint so that they will deploy on the Reservation as per Reservation Policy, but its been failing with below error.
CloneVM : Value cannot be null. Parameter name: source
Not sure what is causing the error, I have checked the configuration but its been failing.

Cannot able to create datastore on vSphere 6.0
Hi Guys,
Could anyone please advise on the below
We have installed ESXi host 6.0 on Dell Poweredge R630 connected to Netapp FAS 2520
After the LUN has been allocated from Netapp storage, we couldn't able to create a datastore on the new ESXi host 6.0
For your kind information, the connection from Netapp storage is FC and the LUN can be seen from the ESXi host 6.0
Please find the attached error

What is the source OS type? GFS won't be preserved, the volume will become ext3.
